KAYAMA
Masako Azumaya is in charge of design and production for the fashion brand "KAYAMA".
The painting used for the print on the fabric is a work by Matazo Kayama (1927-2004), a master of Japanese painting who served as professor at Tama Art University and Tokyo University of the Arts, and was awarded the Order of Culture in 2003.
While using the traditional styles of Japanese painting, Matazo Kayama has also voraciously studied Western painting, from the Lascaux cave paintings to contemporary artists such as Bruegel, Rousseau, and Bicazo, to build his own unique realm. He is one of the artists who brought confidence to modern Japanese art.
The launch of the fashion brand "KAYAMA" was made possible through a collaboration with Yuki Kayama, director of Kayama Ltd. and granddaughter of Kayama Matazo.
